Claire Jimenez is a third-year MFA student in fiction, from New York City, where she spent several years teaching and coordinating activities for different youth development agencies. In 2010 and 2011, she received a District of Cultural Affairs¹ artist grant from the Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island; with that funding, she established a youth council to map arts opportunities on the island and to host an open mic series for teenagers at the local library. Currently, she teaches performance poetry to teenagers in Nashville for the non-profit organization Southern Word. She is also co-facilitating a fiction workshop on Death Row at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution and collaborating with the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center to create an expressive writing workshop for those impacted by cancer.
